About Gary

Gary Nowak, Democratic Candidate for State Representative

Candidate for State Representative Gary Nowak and his family live in Elmhurst. He is a banker with over twenty years' experience. Gary is a decision maker specializing in small business finance that keeps the local economy vital.

Born and raised on the Northwest side of Chicago, Gary joined the United States Marine Corps in 1983 and served our nation honorably. Building on the values of duty and service, Gary pursued a career in banking, which allowed him the opportunity to engage with small business owners to help maintain and grow the local economy. During this time, Gary worked with a number of his increasingly dissatisfied neighbors who feel unheard and ignored by state government.

As a businessman, Gary knows the growing concerns of residents of DuPage County—public transit is lacking, the local infrastructure, including roads and bridges, are neglected, health care costs are mounting, and school funding reassessment is overdue. With these issues and more facing the residents of DuPage County as well as all of Illinois, Gary Nowak is committed to bringing change and rational thought to Springfield.

With his wife, Peggy, Gary is an active parent, raising two school-age sons to participate in local events and culture—in addition to museums and concerts, both parents enjoy sports, hiking, and traveling as a family. As with their elder son, who has joined in volunteering with his mom for Chicago Cares, Gary strives to increase access to programs and volunteer opportunities that allow children to develop greater connections to their communities.
